Meet the designer
Hello!
I’m Miriam, the designer and founder of Papallou NY, a vintage/boho inspired brand of children’s wear. Having a background in retail merchandising and marketing, I began to explore my passion for design when my daughter Gitty, then age 6, began to have her own opinions about the clothes she wanted to wear and felt comfortable in. As a mom wanting to give my daughter the freedom of choosing the way she wanted to express herself through her clothing, I found myself juggling between the balance of granting her that freedom, whilst at the same time trying to dress my little girl in the clothes I so loved and appreciated. And the rest, as they say, is Papallou!
Setting my roots in the NYC Garment District, I began to learn about pattern making, fabric selections and the likes, obsessing over details like finishes, trims and buttons. My affection for anything vintage or antiquated, often has me scouting at vintage warehouses and fleas looking for wears I can utilize to infuse each piece of clothing with a unique twist, because I believe that every child should be made to feel unique and special in their very own way.
My goal when designing my collections is that each piece of clothing be beautiful yet comfortable and breezy, so kids can feel free to run around and explore the world around them and just be….kids!
We use natural fibers like soft fleece like cotton knits, breathable cotton muslin and fine linens purchased from environmentally-conscious suppliers around the world.
My hope is that our clothes be loved by parents and children alike, and can be passed along and enjoyed for decades. Feel free to reach out to me with any comments/questions, or just to share some love!
